Frequently Asked Questions

Q- What happens when the aide needs a vacation or a few days off?

A- SmartChoice provides “fill in” aides when the permanent aide needs time off.

Q- What kind of background checks are done on the aides?

A- All of our aides are certified, bonded, and insured. They must complete a comprehensive background check and physical examination prior to placement.

Q- What if my loved one does not like her/his aide?

A- At SmartChoice we understand that not all personalities “click”. We are more then happy to switch aides until we find the perfect match.

Q- Do the aides do housekeeping?

A- The aides are care givers (not housekeepers), however they will do light housekeeping such as laundry, dishwashing, wiping down of surfaces, cleaning up after themselves.

Q- Do the Aides Cook?

A- Our aides will prepare meals that the client requests and provides food for, with in reason. They are not chefs and will have to be taught how to make certain foods. It is helpful to have a list of what your love one likes and any specific instructions of how to prepare. This can be a work in progress and develops over time.

Q- What do the aides eat?

A- Most of our aides bring their own food to their cases. We ask the family to provide staple items such as (milk, butter, bread, etc.) In Assisted Living Facilities there is an additional charge of ten dollars a day, unless other-wise stated.

Q- Do they aides drive?

A- Some of our aides do drive. However they cannot use their personal vehicles to drive your loved one. They must use your loved ones vehicle. We also have a driver available that can be scheduled to take your loved one with their aide to appointments.

Q- Why go through the agency and not hire someone privately?

A- SmartChoice is licensed, bonded, and insured. We have a nursing team that will create a care of plan based on the individual needs of each client. The nursing team will also assist with medications, communication with doctors, and referrals to physical therapy, hospice care, and wound care. We are the supervisor to all our aides, so you never have to be “the bad guy”. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by telephone.
